Prostate Cancer - Exercise improves sexual function
Our latest research has confirmed that erectile dysfunction in patients living with prostate cancer could be significantly improved through regular exercise (1 hour, 3 times a week) and should be included in their cancer survivorship plans.
The new national study published in the journal JAMA Network Open was led by Professor Daniel Galvao, Director of the Exercise Medicine Research Institute. He noted that there was a critical window of rehabilitation following cancer treatments, in which patients had the opportunity to address this major issue.
Results of this study suggest that for men with prostate cancer concerned about sexual dysfunction, exercise is an effective intervention to improve sexual function and should be considered as an integral part of treatment.
This discovery is expected to change treatment protocols worldwide as sexual dysfunction is a common and distressing side-effect of the biggest cancer diagnosed in men.
